Event Information

Event Info:
Save The Bay and its members bring real change to Narragansett Bay and its watershed.

From the beginning, the Save The Bay Swim has raised money to fund its role as an advocate for the Bay.

In Save The Bay’s formative years, the Swim helped keep the organization afloat. The Save The Bay of today is a legacy of those first brave souls who crossed the East Passage.

Today, a Bay without Save The Bay could be defined by: a nuclear power plant at Rome Point; a failing municipal sewage treatment plant at Fields Point, dumping millions of gallons of raw sewage into the upper Bay; a 60-ton-per-day sewage sludge incinerator at Fields Point;shores unprotected from oil spills; a large-load container port at Quonset built, in part, by filling 144 acres of the Bay; no marine science in Providence’s public elementary schools;lost salt marshes and historic herring runs;a reputation for being a place where development rules — even when wetlands, shorelines and public access are compromised;eelgrass extinction.

WE SWIM because we treasure Narragansett Bay and its watershed as a natural resource.

WE SWIM because we believe environmentally sound management of the Bay is important to our way of life and the economy that supports it.

WE SWIM because it is one thing to say you are “for the environment” but quite another to get involved and dramatically demonstrate that clean water is a public health issue.

Since 1977, the Swim has been a tangible reminder that when Save The Bay speaks, it speaks on behalf of people who care about the Bay in extraordinary ways.

The Versa board is the first stand-up-paddle board of its kind: a paddle board with complete hybrid paddling capabilities. It functions superbly as a SUP (stand-up-paddleboard) and fluidly as a SOT (sit-on-top). Sport options range from a hardcore angler’s favorite fishing vessel to a play machine and diving platform for the whole human and canine family to a tread mill for core training.

Kayak or Bike! ($2,500.00 - $5,000.00)

Wetsuit ($1,500.00 - $2,500.00)
Exclusive 5/3mm Ultra Light weight Speed Skin neoprene combined with Ultra Soft Coated Skin neoprene provides unmatched buoyancy, flexibility and comfort. 5mm Speed Skin neoprene on the chest panel affords ideal positioning in the water with less surface resistance than standard neoprene. A 3mm back panel permits efficient stroke performance, with range of motion further enhanced by the strategic placement of 3mm Super Four-Way Stretch neoprene along the arms, shoulders and underarms maximizing unrestricted reach.

Swim Suit ($1,000.00 - $1,500.00)
Choose from four different styles of suits, the Basic Boxer Short and Aqualast PBT Jammers for men or the Team Accent or Lycra Powerback for ladies. These chlorine resistant suits by Kiefer are durable and ready for training.
